WiMAX Development in Asia September 29 - October 5

- Taiwanese data communications equipment maker Tecom and Israeli mobile WiMAX solution provider Alvarion have entered into a collaboration agreement for WiMAX base station manufacturing, according to Economic Daily News of Taiwan. Tecom is expected to supply WiMAX base stations and radio frequency modules as well as CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) to Alvarion, and the first batch of radio frequency modules is slated for shipment by year-end 2008 at the earliest.

Previously Alvarion and Taiwan's Accton Technology have set up a joint venture named Accton Wireless Broadband dedicated to WiMAX CPE development. Alvarion has a 15% stake in the venture, according to Taiwan's Commercial Times.

- Motorola has begun to offer WiMAX IOT (Interoperability Testing) services at its Arlington Heights facility in Illinois and the new lab in Taiwan, according to a press release by the company. The Taiwan IOT lab is a collaborative effort between Motorola and Taiwanese WiMAX test and certification service company M-SkyLink.
